President’s Message

Welcome to the official website of the Nassau County Firefighter’s Pipes & Drums, America’s First Volunteer Firefighter bagpipe band. My name is Sean McKeon and it is my honor and privilege to lead such a great band. This band has come a long way from its humble beginnings back in 1985, to where we are today. We can boast about three New York State Championships (and a 2nd Place finish in 2013), a few Nassau County Parade & Total Point Championships, and 2 band CDs. In addition, the band has been fortunate enough to perform at several high profile performances. In September, we led the halftime performance at the New York Jets Game for the First Responders Appreciation night. we performed for PNC Banks Christmas Price Index, an online commercial based on the price of the 12 days of Christmas. So far the commercial has received over 200,000 views on You Tube.
While we are not known as a competition band, we took 2nd place in our first ever competition in 2012. We also designed our own kilt which is officially listed on The Scottish Register of Tartans. You can see it, along with a description HERE
.Most recently we represented the fire service Marching in the 58th Presidential Inauguration parade. The Nassau County Firefighter’s Pipes & Drums are one of the busiest pipe bands on Long Island with over 30 public and private performances a year. Our members are some of the most dedicated in the business. We practice, on average, 50 of the 52 weeks a year and double up twice a week practices in the months leading up to our Annual Irish Bash, which takes place every February. I am proud to be serving my 1st term as President of the band. I am very much looking forward to working with the entire executive board to help the band continue to grow and improve.
To hire the band, or a few members individually, for a private function, contact our Band Manager Robert Hughes.
